Randy Pie was a German music group that played a mix of rock, jazz and funk. They were founded in 1972, initially as Randy Pie & Family , by musicians who had previously played with the Petards (Wippich) and the Rattles (Tarrach), among others .

occupation

Drummer was Reinhard "Dicky" Tarrach , lead singer and guitarist Bernd Wippich , previously Petards , bassist Manfred Thiers, and on saxophone was Jochen Petersen, who also played flute and guitar and sang. Werner Becker played the keyboard, another keyboard player was the French Jean-Jacques Kravetz , ex- Frumpy , who also played the saxophone occasionally.

history

In 1973 the band released their first album, Randy Pie . An England tour was comparatively successful, but there were difficulties with the name, since "randy" also means "cool" or "hot", so that they occasionally appeared under the name Sandy Pie . Their second album, Highway Driver , was released in 1975, followed by Kitsch that same year . In 1976 England, England was released , the title track of which was released as a single quite successfully. In 1977 the band went to Los Angeles with the new singer Peter French, who had previously sung with Atomic Rooster and Cactus , to record their next record, Fast Forward , under the direction of producer Spencer Poffer and with the support of German guitarist Frank Diez . The hope for international success was not fulfilled, however, and a short time later they dissolved.

Tarrach and Thiers then founded the Moti Special project together with Michael Cretu .

In 1986 there was a brief reunion : the band played their sixth album, Magic Ferry , almost with the original line-up (for Kravetz came the Hamburg keyboarder Claus-Robert Kruse) , which was unsuccessful. In 2009 Bernd Wippich played several concerts with guest musicians under the name "Randy Pie Reloaded", including in Hamburg.
