Moti Special was a multinational synth-pop band that formed in Hamburg in 1981 . Founding members were Manfred "Tissy" Thiers (singer / bassist), Michael Cretu (keyboardist), Reinhard "Dicky" Tarrach (drummer) and the Dane Nils Tuxen (guitarist). All members were already experienced professional musicians who also worked on other projects at the same time; but also together, like in 1980 for Peter Cornelius ' album Zwei .
The name “Moti Special” goes back to a spicy Indian dish that singer Manfred “Tissy” Thiers had eaten in a London restaurant.
history
Although founded in 1981, the group did not achieve commercial success until the mid-1980s. Her greatest successes were the songs Cold Days, Hot Nights and Don't Be So Shy , which became top 10 hits in Germany in 1985. The first album Motivation was released to match . It was produced in the Data Alpha Studios in Munich and hit the charts in 1985. The producers were Michael Cretu & Armand Volker . This team also worked for other German pop musicians in the 1980s, e. B. Sandra or Hubert Kah .
Michael Cretu and Manfred "Tissy" Thiers founded the project " Cretu & Thiers " a short time later and have not appeared under the name "Moti Special" since then.
Nevertheless, the band released a second album in 1990. Dicky Tarrach and Nils Tuxen had teamed up with the new bassist Anders Mossberg and the new singer / keyboardist Frank Ardahl (Ådahl). However, there was no commercial success.
