Life

Hubert Kah, 2014

Hubert Kemmler grew up as the son of the long-time Betzingen District Mayor Dieter Kemmler and grandson of the manufacturer Julius Kemmler ( BEKA pressure cookers ). Before starting his music career, he studied law at the University of Tübingen .

Kemmler had commercial success with the trio "Hubert Kah" at the time of the Neue Deutsche Welle in 1982 with the singles Rosemarie , Sternenhimmel and once only with Erika (… escaping this world) as well as with the albums Meine Höhepunkte and Ich komm . The group included Hubert Kemmler as singer, Markus Löhr as guitarist and keyboardist and Klaus Hirschburger as bassist. At times they worked with different drummers such as B. Reinhold Hirth together. The singer caused a stir, especially with television appearances in a nightdress or straitjacket .

From 1984 the trio started working with producer Michael Cretu . After the third German-language album ( Golden Times ) with the hits Engel 07 and Wenn der Mond der Sonne touches the English language albums Tensongs (1986) and Sound of My Heart (1989), some of which were also internationally successful. Together with Michael Cretu and also alone, Kemmler wrote and produced titles for other artists, including Blue Night Shadow by Two of Us , Dancing Into Danger by Inker & Hamilton , Love at First Sight by the band Münchener Freiheit and most of the hits by Sandra ( Mary Magdalene , Heaven Can Wait and many others). With Sandra, Kemmler was partly responsible for the background vocals, as well as with songs by Inker & Hamilton, the Münchener Freiheit , Peter Schilling , Juliane Werding , Maggie Reilly and Sally Oldfield .

As of 2014, as the (co-) author (i.e. composer and / or lyricist) of the pop hits mentioned, Kah receives annual payments of more than 50,000 euros from GEMA .

At the end of 1989 Hubert Kah fell ill with depression and withdrew completely from the public. After the recovery at that time , the CD Hubert Kah, produced by Armand Volker , and the corresponding single C'est la vie were released in 1996 . The production with classic elements was not as commercially successful as Kah had hoped. receipt

In autumn 1998 a new single ( Love Chain ) and a best-of CD were released. Then Kemmler fell ill again and had to seek medical treatment again. Kah continues to experience phases of severe depression (as of 2014), which he encounters by taking an antidepressant that “enables him to live in freedom”.

In 2005 Hubert Kah started his second comeback with the studio album Seelentaucher . The first single was called No Rain .

In the spring of 2007, Hubert Kah went on tour in Germany as Ice King Kini with the musical Princess Lillifee . Document On May 26, 2007 he was one of four guests of honor at the acoustic concert of the band ASP at the WGT 2007 in Leipzig .

At the end of 2010 Hubert Kah could be heard as a guest singer on the album Malo Morgen by the Düsseldorf Balkan band Trovači . Together with their singer Danko Rabrenović he recorded a bilingual (Serbo-Croatian / German) Ska version of Starry Sky . receipt

On October 26, 2012, Sandra released a new album entitled Stay in Touch , on which Kemmler collaborated and for the first time since the late 1980s took over the background vocals. It reached number 20 in the German charts. The first single from it was Maybe Tonight . In 2013 Hubert Kah wrote the blurb for the anthology Menschen unterm Sternenhimmel published by Elb Verlag , which sees itself in the context of his song Sternenhimmel .

Hubert Kah was a participant in the Sat.1 television show Promi Big Brother in August 2014 and was eliminated in sixth place. Together with his girlfriend Ilona Magyar, he took part in the four-part RTL reality show Das Sommerhaus der Stars - Kampf der Promipaare in July 2016 . At the end of the second episode of the show, the couple left the house of their own accord.

In June 2017 the Dessau metal band Herren announced that Kemmler was their new front man and that they were already working on a new studio album. In January 2018, Kemmler announced on his Facebook page that he was no longer a member of the band.

Private life

Hubert Kah was married for seven years to Susanne Kemmler, now Susanne Sigl , who appears as a singer under the pseudonym Sumatic and from whom he is divorced. He has been in a relationship with Ilona Magyar since 2014 , whom he married in May 2018. They live together in Hubert Kah's father's house.
