Trovači (in German 'Vergifter') is a Düsseldorf Balkan - Ska - Reggae band that sings in German , Serbian and Croatian .

The band's music deals, often with self-irony, guest worker clichés, everyday German life and heartbreak issues.

Surname

Trovači is a slang term from the Yugoslav language and means "someone who can flirt well".

The band called one of their members "Trovači" because of his flirting behavior. From this the band name developed over time. According to singer and guitarist Danko Rabrenović, the band now wants to “poison” Western Europe with Yugoslav rhythms.

Influences

The band's influences come from the Yugoslav New Wave , a movement that lasted from 1980 to around 1984, led by bands such as Idoli , Šarlo Akrobata or Haustor , who sang in Serbian, Bosnian or Croatian and used Ska rhythms.

Band history

According to singer and guitarist Danko Rabrenović , who moderates the weekly Balkanizer program at Funkhaus Europa , the band Trovači initially only wanted to perform a few pieces from this period (the Yugoslav New Wave) as a "homage for a few friends" on a small scale. From this, however, more developed, not least because of the interest that the music also found outside of the “ex-Yugo community”. The band then decided to record their first album Balkanplatte in 2004 .

In 2006 Trovači released their first single Welcome to Germany , which got in the mood for the soccer World Cup and its World Cup program. Together with Götz Alsmann , Christine Westermann , Chris Howland , the WDR Big Band and other artists, Trovači went on a major theater tour on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the WDR in 2006.

After Trovači had applied in 2008 in vain with their one and a half minute piece Kako-Tako (in German 'Wie? - So!') As a direct candidate for Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest , they entered the German supporting program of the Eurovision Song Contest, which the ARD broadcast, with the pieces Kako-Tako and Paradies .

On October 8, 2010 Trovači released their third album Malo Morgen with 15 titles in Serbian and German with prominent guests such as Hubert Kah , Dr. Ring Ding and Las Balkanieras . With Hubert Kah as a guest singer, Trovači recorded a bilingual (Serbo-Croatian / German) Ska version of his big hit Sternenhimmel . The Balkanizer appeared in parallel . Ein Jugo in Deutschland (Vgs Egmont) the first book by singer and guitarist Danko Rabrenović, in which he humorously tells of his experiences as a migrant and also refers to the history of the band in one chapter.
