Engel 07 is a song by the German musician Hubert Kah , which was released in April 1984 as the first single from the album Goldene Zeiten . In June 1985 an English language version was published under the title Angel 07 .

Music and lyrics

Angel 07 is about a relationship with a woman that lasts only three nights. On the third night she says: "I'll be gone soon, I would have liked to stay, but unfortunately I have to leave". Since the protagonist also thinks he perceives that she catches a "radio signal" at the open window and that there is also "puzzling light on her hair", he describes her as "Angel 07" and suspects that she is a "heavenly spy". It's a synth-pop song that still picks up some influences from the Neue Deutsche Welle .

Creation and publication

The band took a year off, according to Hubert Kah, to write songs together. She also trained the new drummer Achim Czech. The band also began working with Michael Cretu . Hubert Kah wrote the song together with the well-known songwriter Michael Kunze alias Mario Killer. It was produced by Cretu and Armand Volker .

Engel 07 was released as a 7 "single on Blow Up. On the B-side is the song Rhythmus à gogo . The single made it to number 30 in the German single charts and was in the hit list for 16 weeks. In Switzerland the song reached number 15 and was placed for eleven weeks. The song also appeared on several Neue Deutsche Welle compilations . There is also a 5:07 minute maxi version. In 1985 Hubert Kah published the English version of Angel 07 with a text by Timothy Touchton , also in a long version. A rather elaborate music video was produced for the English version. The English version was sometimes played on the radio in German-speaking countries.

reception

Hubert Kah appeared with the song twice in the ZDF hit parade ; on June 30, 1984, the band was voted first in a TED vote. On July 21, she was allowed to play the title again. On January 17, 1985, there was also an appearance on the special program Die Superhitparade - Hits des Jahres '84 . Also in the ARD children's show Spielbude and Na sowas! in ZDF with Thomas Gottschalk , the group occurred.
