Maggie Reilly
Maggie Reilly (born September 15, 1956 in Glasgow , Scotland ) is a Scottish singer .
Early years
The daughter of the Scottish singer Danny Reilly accompanied her father to concerts from a young age. In Glasgow she met Stuart McKillop and joined the Joe Cool formation he founded. Two years later, the band, which they called Cado Belle after some personal changes, released their first and only album, Cado Belle . In the following years Maggie Reilly played with Cado Belle at several concerts and worked with other musicians such as Jim Wilkie .
Mike Oldfield
Through her boyfriend and future husband, the sound engineer Chrys Lindop, Maggie Reilly met Mike Oldfield in 1980 . This encounter influenced her musical career. First she appeared as a soloist on a European tour of Oldfields (see Live at Montreux 1981 ) and sang passages of songs for his album QE2 along with other interpreters . For the following album Five Miles Out (1982) Oldfield engaged her as a soloist. In addition to The Deep Deep Sound (part of the title Taurus II ), she also sang the eponymous song Five Miles Out , together with Oldfield herself. Her big musical breakthrough came in 1983 with the third joint project: Oldfield wrote the song Moonlight Shadow for the album Crises . Carried by Maggie Reilly's clear soprano , the song became a lasting international success, followed by numerous cover versions . In England, Moonlight Shadow reached number 4 in the charts , in Germany even number 2. Maggie Reilly also sang the title Foreign Affair for Crises , on whose text she had worked. After the success of Crises , Reilly also worked as a soloist on Oldfield's next album, Discovery (1984). In addition to the titles Crystal Gazing and Tricks of the Light , which she interpreted, To France in particular was granted greater success. Afterwards she only rarely worked with Oldfield, as he now relied primarily on his partner Anita Hegerland as a singer. In collaboration with Maggie Reilly, the song Mistake and Blue Night , which was only released on one single and one Best of ... , was the only song she sang on the album Earth Moving (1989).
Collaboration with other musicians
In addition to Mike Oldfield, Maggie Reilly has worked with a variety of other famous musicians.
Under the direction of Mike Batt , she was involved in the realization of Lewis Carroll's poem The Hunting of the Snark in a musical of the same name in 1986 with Art Garfunkel , George Harrison , Julian Lennon , Cliff Richard .
In November 1989 Harold Faltermeyer produced Artists United for Nature (AUN), a project for which well-known artists recorded the benefit song Yes We Can for the benefit of the rainforest . In addition to Maggie Reilly, u. a. Joe Cocker , Brian May , Ian Anderson , Herbie Hancock , Chaka Khan , Sandra , Jennifer Rush, and Chris Thompson on the charity. The single Yes We Can reached number 15 in the German, number 27 of the Austrian and number 4 of the Swiss charts in January 1990.
In addition, Maggie Reilly worked with David Gilmour , Jack Bruce , the Sisters of Mercy ( Vision Thing ) , Ralph McTell , Flairck and Smokie (Wild Horses) .
In 1994 Juliane Werding , who had once sung the German version of Moonlight Shadow (Night full of shadows) , was able to win Maggie Reilly for her single Engel wie du and subsequently for the album Du schaffst es . Together with the Belgian singer Viktor Lazlo , who was also involved in the album , Maggie Reilly also took part in Juliane Werding's successful tour of twenty cities.
The Hamburg-based studio guitarist Peter Weihe , who also worked for the Rainbirds in the studio, can be heard on numerous songs by Maggie Reilly.
In September 2015, Where the Heart Lies was released , a duet with the Danish singer Bryan Rice, which was released as a single in Scandinavia.
Solo projects
During her work for the Lenny MacDowell Project and Artists United for Nature, Maggie Reilly met the Munich music manager Jürgen Thürnau and Stefan Zauner , the singer of the Münchener Freiheit . In co-production with him and Armand Volker , she recorded her first solo album Echoes in 1991 , which also included the airplay hit Everytime We Touch . The musician and studio singer Peter Risavy († January 23, 2011) stands for this as the composer .
In 1993, Midnight Sun was followed by their second album. For Elena (1996) she was able to re-record To France , which was published by Mike Oldfield in 1984 . In addition to the Finnish band Värttinä, she was able to reunite a large part of Cado Belle for the work on this album.
However, their solo albums failed to achieve any particular chart notation. Their first best-of album was released in 1998 under the title There and Back Again, followed by Starcrossed (2000). The album Looking Back Moving Forward was released in 2009 and Heaven Sent in 2013 .
