Crises is a studio album by British musician Mike Oldfield from 1983. Crises is also the title of the first track on the album .

Based on his success with the previous album Five Miles Out , Oldfield relied again on the principle: page 1 (of the LP at the time) with a long instrumental piece (21 minutes), page 2 with a short instrumental piece and four sung songs. In the booklet, Oldfield writes: “One side is very commercial (…) while the other is more the material I want to do for personal satisfaction. It's a case of keeping everybody happy. " ("One side is very commercial (...) while the other contains more of the material I create for personal satisfaction. Everyone is happy this way.")

The Longtrack Crises begins with a modification of the tubular bells theme. Stylistically, a stronger influence of the pop music of the time is recognizable compared to earlier longtracks by Oldfield, many passages were recorded in full rock band line-up with guitar, bass, drums and synthesizer.

Two of the shorter tracks, Moonlight Shadow and Shadow on the Wall , were successfully released as singles. The latter was released on the 12 "-Maxi and later on the best-of album Elements in a longer version of 5:07 minutes. The title Taurus 3 closes the Taurus trilogy, which is supported by instrumental pieces of the same name on the two previous albums QE2 and Five Miles Out was opened and continued. The musical connection between the individual parts is rather loose except for the fact that they are instrumental pieces. At the center of the flamenco- influenced Taurus 3 is a fast-playing acoustic guitar, which is sometimes accompanied by drums .

On the American pressing of the album, the two sides of the LP are swapped, so that the deliberately commercial title occupies the first side. There is also an additional track called Mistake sung by Maggie Reilly . On the European market, Mistake was first released in 1985 as part of the compilation The Complete Mike Oldfield .

In September 2013 Universal Music released a re-release of Crises in various formats (normal remastered CD, deluxe edition with live recordings, a 5-disc set CD / DVD and a limited vinyl edition in transparent green).
