Return to Ommadawn is the 26th studio album by British musician Mike Oldfield , released on January 20, 2017 on the Virgin EMI record label . It is a continuation of his third album Ommadawn from 1975. It was recorded by Mike Oldfield from December 2015 to May 2016.
The album was released on CD, CD / DVD, LP and digital download on January 20, 2017 on Virgin EMI Records . The CD / DVD-Audio set contains a 5.1 surround sound mix of the album.

Oldfield toyed with the idea of creating a sequel to Ommadawn in the past; " Amarok was originally supposed to be Ommadawn II, but it went a little in its own direction."
On October 16, 2015, Oldfield said on Twitter : "I've been working on ideas for A New Ommadawn for about a week to see if […] the idea actually works." On May 8, 2016, Oldfield said on his Facebook - Group side that the new Ommadawn project with the preliminary title Return to Ommadawn is finished and he is waiting for a release date from the record company.
On December 7, 2016, Oldfield revealed in a Facebook post that the publication date would be January 20, 2017. A 30-second preview was posted on this Facebook post and a 3-minute "Radio Exclusive Single Version" was played on BBC Radio 2 .
Return to Ommadawn is the first album since Incantations (1978), which follows the format that a track per side of the vinyl - LP is simply labeled "Part One", "Part Two", etc..
The album received mixed to average reviews, scoring 64 out of 100 on Metacritic . In Spain it came in first place.
