Heaven's Open is a music album by British rock musician Mike Oldfield . It is Oldfield's fourteenth studio album and was released in 1991 . It was his last album on Virgin . Mike Oldfield was contracted to produce this album. After he had fallen out with the owner and founder of Virgin Richard Branson (see Amarok for reasons ), he gave it a swipe at the record company. In Make Make , he criticizes their greed for money at the expense of originality.

Oldfield released the album under the name Michael Oldfield. In addition, the first name of the producer Tom Newman is alienated with an "h". Newman later said it was an attempt to reinvent himself, while another source theorized that Branson gave Oldfield the idea that "Michael" sounds much more formal and respectable than the easy-going "Mike".

What is unusual is that Oldfield does the lead vocals for all vocal titles himself. Heaven's Open is the only one of his albums where this is the case. Oldfield took six months of singing lessons from Helena Shenel .
