Guitars is a studio album by British musician Mike Oldfield from 1999. It is a concept album ; the concept is: all sounds are created with guitars.

particularities

  • The album's booklet and cover show an outwardly different Mike Oldfield - the 46-year-old at the time can be seen in a denim jacket and with blond highlights.
  • All noises and tones were only created with guitars, including those that sound more like drums . In addition to different types of guitars (such as midi), special playing techniques and sampling processes were used.
  • With this experiment, Oldfield responded to allegations from fans that his music was too electronic after The Songs of Distant Earth and Tubular Bells III . In 2003 and 2005, however, Oldfield relied on computer technology again with the albums Tr3s Lunas and Light + Shade .
  • On the occasion of the publication, Oldfield went on a European tour with a small group of accompanying musicians in the summer of 1999 under the motto "Then and Now", with several concerts also taking place in Germany. It was the last regular tour to date (as of 2013) and, with a few exceptions, also the last live performances of Oldfield at all.
