Iceland is a studio album by the British musician Mike Oldfield from the year 1987 . Islands is also the title of one of the songs. After the double hit in 1984 with Discovery and The Killing Fields , the soundtrack to the film of the same name (see The Killing Fields ), Oldfield had taken a three-year hiatus. From 1987 to 1999 a new album followed at least every two years before Oldfield dedicated himself to the computer game and the accompanying soundtrack Tr3s Lunas .
useful information
- Like the albums Five Miles Out and Crises , Oldfield follows the principle: a long instrumental piece (22 minutes) followed by vocal pieces - in this case six in number.
- All the tracks on the album were provided with a video (these can also be seen on the Elements DVD ) - often with the most modern computer technology for the time.
- The track list of the US version differs from the one that was released in Europe (see 'Tracks' for details); the encore When The Night's On Fire is completely missing in the US Version.
- The album was yes - and Asia - keyboardist and GTR -producer Geoff Downes produced.
Title list (European version)
- The Wind Chimes Part 1 and 2 - 21:47 (In the USA the pieces were separated on two tracks; Part 1 goes up to minute 02:33)
- Islands - 4:20 (last track on the album in the US; sung by Bonnie Tyler )
- Flying Start - 3:37 (In the USA Track 6; sung by Kevin Ayers )
- North Point - 3:33 (In the USA Track 5; sung by Anita Hegerland )
- Magic Touch - 4:14 (Track 3 in the US; sung by Jim Price)
- The Time Has Come - 3:55 (In the USA Track 4; sung by Anita Hegerland )
- When the Night's on Fire - 6:40 (not available in the USA; sung by Anita Hegerland , this almost seven-minute piece is a revival of motifs from The Wind Chimes and Islands and is an encore for the European album version)
success
Islands follows on from the usual success of Oldfield's albums; the title song reached number 41 in Germany ; Magic Touch was a top ten hit in the US .
