Tr3s Lunas (pronounced Tres Lunas ) is a studio album by British musician Mike Oldfield from 2002 . As with The Songs Of Distant Earth and later Light + Shade , the artist dedicates himself to instrumental chill-out on this album . After The Millennium Bell, Oldfield allowed himself an unusually long break of three years, as the album was also intended as a soundtrack for the computer game of the same name that he was developing in parallel (see below).

Special features and tracks

In contrast to The Songs Of Distant Earth , the tracks on Tr3s Lunas don't flow into each other; there is also a song. The original idea was to create music that can be used as a background for a computer game (see below). The album consists of 14 tracks. These are:

  1. "Misty" - 3:59
  2. "No Mans Land" - 6:08
  3. "Return to the Origin" - 4:38
  4. "Landfall" - 2:19
  5. "Viper" - 4:32
  6. "Turtle Island" - 3:40
  7. "To Be Free" - 4:21
  8. "Fire Fly" - 3:46
  9. "Tr3s Lunas" - 4:35
  10. "Daydream" - 2:15
  11. "Thou Art in Heaven" - 5:22
  12. "Sirius" - 5:47
  13. "No Mans Land" (recapitulation) - 2:56
  14. "To Be Free" (radio version) - 3:56

The piece Thou Art in Heaven is based on the middle passages of the light spectacle Art in Heaven at Oldfield's live premiere of The Millennium Bell on New Year's Eve at the Victory Column in Berlin . The radio version of To Be Free differs from the album version by a different drum track, which already fully emphasizes the first chorus, and by an earlier fade out. To Be Free was also (partially) translated into German and Spanish; at least the German version suggests a machine translation. A slightly modified version of Tr3s Lunas can be heard as First Steps on Light + Shade .

Most of the titles included are provided with programmed drum tracks. In contrast, the two predominantly acoustic pieces Daydream and Firefly stand out.

MusicVR - Interactive PC Game

Some editions of the album are equipped with an additional CD-ROM with an interactive PC game - like Maestro later , the animation was out of date and flopped; Oldfield's excursions into the world of computer games were often only laughed at.
