BBC Radio 2 (just called Radio 2 for short ) is a national radio program of the BBC . The program consists of music and cultural programs for adult audiences and is the UK 's most popular radio program.

history

As the successor to the BBC Light program, Radio 2 began broadcasting on September 30, 1967. Radio 2 became the first British radio station to broadcast a 24-hour program in the late 1970s.

Before the establishment of BBC Radio Five Live as the BBC's news and sports broadcaster, sports broadcasting was an integral part of Radio 2's medium wave programming . Radio Five Live took over the medium wave frequencies from Radio 2 at the time . Well-known TV presenters (such as Noel Edmonds) and artists (such as Bruce Dickinson or Suzi Quatro ) regularly present their own programs. The program is mainly broadcast from the Western House in London . Some shows (for example the night program with Janice Long ) are also broadcast from the BBC studios in Birmingham or Manchester.

With a share of 27%, it is now by far the most popular radio program in Great Britain . Every year are BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in folk musicians lent.

reception

Radio 2 broadcasts via powerful VHF transmitters (up to 250 kW) in the 88–91 MHz frequency range, via DAB (12B), the BSkyB satellite network, cable, DVB-T (known as Freeview in Great Britain ) and via the Internet .
