BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra is a digital radio program from the BBC . It is the partner station of BBC Radio 5 Live , with which the broadcaster shares studios, presenters and management.

The program went on the air on February 2, 2002 and focuses on sports coverage. It is the only BBC program that is not broadcast around the clock, but can only be received during broadcasts. The internet live stream is also interrupted between transmissions.

The broadcast is from the Quay House in MediaCityUK in Salford .

Well-known programs

On BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra , among other things, the cricket transmissions in the program Test Match Special are broadcast, which can be heard in parallel on the long wave frequencies of BBC Radio 4 . During the Summer Olympics in London in 2012 there was a special program that was broadcast live via DAB and online under the name BBC Radio 5 , which only featured reports from the Games. It complemented the coverage of BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra. The program could only be heard within the UK for legal reasons.
