The Suddenmoor is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipalities of Menslage in the joint municipality of Artland and Berge in the joint municipality of Fürstenau in the district of Osnabrück .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG WE 303 is around 311  hectares in size. Most of it is part of the FFH area "Hahnenmoor, Hahlener Moor, Suddenmoor". In the north-west it borders on the nature reserve “ Hahlener Moor ”, in the south-west with the nature reserve “ Suddenmoor / Anten ”, to which it belonged before it was designated as an independent nature reserve. In the south, the nature reserve is bordered mostly to the conservation area "Nature Park Northern Teutoburg Forest - Wiehengebirge". The area has been under nature protection since July 1, 2018. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Osnabrück.

The nature reserve is located in the west of the Artland north of Berge and southwest of Menslage in the north of the nature and geopark TERRA.vita . It is mainly characterized by meadows and pastures , which are criss-crossed by ditches and, especially in the north-west and south of the protected area, are divided by hedgerows , field trees and rows of trees. The north-eastern area is characterized by largely open grassland areas with a high level of importance for ground-breeding limicoles such as curlew and lapwing, as well as songbird species such as meadow pipit , brown chit and stonechat . The grasslands are subject to different intensities of use. Around 20 hectares of grassland can be assigned to FFH habitat type 6510 " Lean flatland hay meadows ". The hay meadows are moderately rich in species and are dominated by the grasses foxtail and woolly honeydew grass . In very poor locations, stalk grass and red fescue join them. Sharp buttercups , cuckoo carnations , meadowfoam and red clover also settle here . Moist grass and shrubs have developed on fallow land, and swamps are also sometimes pronounced. In places, moor and quarry forest residues are interspersed in the grasslands, some of which are drained, but some are still well developed. Peat moss , narrow-leaved cotton grass , meadow sedge and pennywort settle in the moor forests on wet locations . In addition, the moor lily joins in places . Small areas of bog heather can be found with bell heather , narrow-leaved cotton grass, pipe grass and peat moss.

The nature reserve is the habitat of various animal species. In addition to birds from open land , hedges and forests, these are above all amphibians and reptiles , grasshoppers and dragonflies .

The area drains through various ditches to the Renslager Canal, which flows into the Hahnenmoorkanal a little north of the nature reserve .

The nature reserve borders mainly on agricultural areas . In the northwest it borders on the moor forests of the nature reserve "Hahlener Moor", in the west selectively on the foothills of the Börstel forest .
