geography

The geographic location of the Artland municipality in the Hase Inland Delta

Geographical location

The municipality is located in an alluvial plain of the North German Plain , through which the Hase flows and forms an inland delta at Quakenbrück .

geology

Because of the low gradient, the Hase formed several arms of the river and the Hase Inland Delta was formed, which consists mainly of glaciofluviatile sediments that were created during the Ice Age by the action of the river carrying the glacier melt .

Drilling has shown that the soil consists primarily of loamy and sandy deposits from the Pleistocene . The top soil layer is five to seven meters thick and is underlain by a loamy and marbled layer of sediment that is up to ten meters thick . Sandy layers at a depth of 25 to 30 meters form a high-yield aquifer for pumping the groundwater . The top aquifer is at a depth of two to six meters.

Joint community structure

The integrated community includes

It is only partially identical to the landscape known as Artland .

history

The Artland joint community was formed as part of the regional reform in accordance with Section 73 (2) of the Lower Saxony Municipal Code with effect from July 29, 1972. Until then, Artland, which has been occupied since 1309, was not a political unit, but rather described a cultural and historical region that changed over the centuries, also in terms of its expansion (see: The Artland as a landscape ).

The Kulturschatz Artland project of the “Zukunft StArtland” working group is primarily dedicated to the farm culture and the historical building substance of this region.

Coat of arms, flag and official seal

The Artland community has a coat of arms, a flag and an official seal, which are set out in § 2 of the main statutes.

Description of coat of arms

" Split by red and silver in a wavy cut, in mixed colors two dragons facing each other without wings and claws."

meaning

The dragon without wings and claws is the so-called " Artländer Dragon ", which the coats of arms of the member communities Badbergen, Menslage and Nortrup each carry in a split shield in the front field. This Artland dragon, also called "Drudemänneken", can often be found on furniture made in Artland.

flag

“The colors of the flag of the Samtgemeinde are red and white; it shows the coat of arms as a symbol. "

Official seal

The official seal contains the coat of arms and the inscription "Samtgemeinde Artland".

Economy and Infrastructure

The companies Ruf Lebensmittel , Lear Corporation , PPS Pipeline Systems and the research and development facility the German Institute for Food Technology (DIL) have settled in Quakenbrück . The meat product factory Kemper and Delkeskamp Verpackungswerke GmbH are located in Nortrup, Artland Convenience in Badbergen.

In post-war Germany, the most important company for the region was the Kynast company, based in Quakenbrücker Neustadt, which employed more than 2500 people, but is now largely irrelevant after two bankruptcies when Kynast-Steel GmbH was founded in 2005. The factories for mattress production ("Schlaraffia") and chemical dye industry, as well as mechanical engineering companies, which were once located in the industrial area there, did not survive the structural crisis of the 1980s.

Sewage treatment plant

In September 2007 a new sewage treatment plant was put into operation at Plückmannstrasse 27 in Quakenbrück. The old sewage treatment plant from 1957 at the same location could no longer be operated despite ongoing renovation measures by the Bersenbrück Water Association. After the state funding had been approved for the construction project, which was estimated at a total of 6.7 million euros, the groundbreaking ceremony took place in 2005 . A central sewage sludge treatment plant was created on the site of the old sewage treatment plant , consisting of a machine house with a sludge thickening and sludge dewatering system. In the newly built block-type thermal power station, the digester gas is already being used to generate electricity in order to also reduce electricity costs. Outdated operating rooms such as the workshop, warehouse, laboratory and sanitary rooms have also given way to a new building. But the entire mechanical and electrical engineering was also renovated.
