The RUF Lebensmittelwerk KG , based in the Lower Saxon town Quakenbrück is a food manufacturer of baking ingredients, desserts, decorative articles, gelatin, sauces binders and baking mixes. The products are offered under the RUF brand. In addition, RUF also produces for processors in the food service and for industry at home and abroad.
history
On November 16, 1920, Clemens Rump and Hubert Flerlage founded the company Rump & Flerlage as a general partnership based in Quakenbrück. The name RUF finally emerged from the initials of the company founder ( R ump u nd F lerlage).
Founding years
The RUF company started out with just 30,000 marks working capital and a single filling machine. After the First World War there was high unemployment and inflation in Germany. In November 1923, 1 trillion paper marks were worth just one gold mark.
Due to the scarcity of food at that time, recipes were offered for pudding, which were actually flammeries made from starch powder and aromatic additives such as vanilla or chocolate. Rump & Flerlage produced this type of pudding and initially only distributed the goods regionally within a radius of up to 50 kilometers.
In 1930 Hubert Flerlage retired from the company and Clemens Rump continued to run the RUF company on his own.
After the Second World War
After the Second World War , the economic boom also gave the industry a boost. RUF expanded its production and range: delicatessen puddings , fruit desserts, quick puddings without cooking, instant desserts, baking mixes, cake icing, baking ingredients and many other sweet specialties were added.
In 1964, the company was a limited partnership and in 1988 RUF Food GmbH & Co renamed. From the beginning of 1986, RUF natreen desserts were produced and distributed exclusively for the German market. National collective advertising under the slogan: "Natreen makes sweet life easier" made the range of low-calorie products known nationally.
Further expansion
In 1991 another production facility was built in neighboring Essen / Oldenburg . A number of new packaging stations and a new finished goods warehouse were built. From mid-1998 the entire production of pudding powder and baking ingredients took place in Essen (Old.). In 2000 the company finally became RUF Lebensmittelwerk KG .
Since the beginning of the new decade, the company has been exporting its products so that consumers can purchase RUF products internationally.
The in-house research and development department develops and produces products, including those for gluten-free , vegan and organic nutrition . RUF currently offers around 300 products that are distributed nationally and internationally.
In the field of baking mixes, the company was in second place with sales of 19.6 million euros in 2010, behind Dr. Oetker (90.5 million euros) and before Kathi .
