Aptitude analysis

The Multicheck Junior aptitude analysis is a job-related aptitude test for those looking for an apprenticeship. It is based on the requirements of the various apprenticeships. Based on these requirements, both the school performance and the intellectual potential of the young people are assessed. This enables the vocational trainers to directly compare the performance of their applicants. In order to meet the various requirements of the numerous apprenticeships, Multicheck AG offers seven different aptitude analyzes:

  • Businesswoman / businessman (economy and administration)
  • Technical (electronics, mechanics, logistics)
  • Retail trade (service and support)
  • ICT (IT and Mediamatics)
  • Beauty (body care and cosmetics)
  • Health (basic education)
  • Certificate (EBA)

Content: basic skills (languages and mathematics according to the curriculum at the end of 8th grade), job-related basic knowledge, potential ( memory , logic , concentration, perception , etc.)

Implementation: After checking the personal details, the candidates complete the aptitude analysis under supervision in a standardized test environment in one of more than 30 Multicheck test centers throughout Switzerland or at the relevant training company. The supervisors are also available for questions. The test lasts between two and a maximum of four hours. The candidates solve the test on the computer. The procedure for the business and technical fields also includes a paper part. Each task area is introduced through a sample exercise (with solution) to ensure that the tasks to be solved are understood.

  • Certificate training in the professional fields of trade and retail and service (EBA)

In addition to the suitability analyzes for degrees with a federal certificate of proficiency (EFZ), a clarification for degrees with a federal professional certificate (EBA) is also offered. The clarification is possible for the professional groups trade as well as retail and service. Following the certificate training, there is the opportunity to learn a profession with an EFZ qualification.

Content: Basic skills (German and basic arithmetic), potential (concentration, practical and logical thinking)

Execution: The test takes about 90 minutes and is carried out in a standardized test environment under supervision on the computer. The different areas are examined one after the other. Each task area is introduced through a sample exercise (with solution) to ensure that the tasks to be solved are understood.

history

In 1996 Multicheck was founded as a simple company. The first suitability analyzes were developed for prospective apprentices in the IT field and used at the BAM (Bern Training Fair). Over a thousand candidates were tested each year. The test was also used in promoting women.

The test was developed further in the following years. This was followed by the TCBE suitability analysis for computer scientists and the VSRT suitability analysis for the trial apprenticeship as multimedia electronics technician.

In 1999, the first suitability analysis for the professional field of business administration was developed for Credit Suisse. The further development took place in cooperation with Credit Suisse , UBS , Raiffeisen , Migrosbank and Coop Bank (today: Bank Cler ). In addition, the basic test was developed in cooperation with Ascom , SBB , Swisscom and the band cooperative (today: Multicheck Junior Technical suitability analysis).

In 2001 Multicheck GmbH was founded. This was followed by the development of the Multicheck Junior suitability analysis for the retail trade, in cooperation with Migros and Coop , as well as for the trade, health and beauty fields.

Multicheck GmbH made the leap to Germany in 2009. Multicheck GmbH also supports the non-profit organization Aiducation International in the search for high potentials in Kenya.

Multicheck AG was founded at the end of 2010.

On January 31, 2012, Multicheck AG opened the GATEWAY career portal. On GATEWAY young people can create their application portfolio free of charge, upload all relevant documents for the apprenticeship search and find interesting training companies or apprenticeships in Switzerland and Germany. The portal is also interesting for companies. GATEWAY was developed with the idea of bringing job-seeking young people and training companies together. Around 30,000 students are currently completing a Multicheck Junior aptitude analysis, the certificate of which they then enclose with the application documents. On request, these young people can have direct access to the GATEWAY. In addition, Multicheck AG has developed a career choice test that is offered free of charge at schools and in advance of various career fairs for career orientation. These young people can also log into the GATEWAY directly. This gives the training companies access to a large pool of potential learners.

science

In 2006 the Multicheck Junior aptitude analysis was subjected to a comprehensive scientific review at the University of Bern.

criticism

The company has achieved a leading position in the selection of prospective professionals in Switzerland. It is particularly criticized for the Multicheck Junior suitability analysis.

Criticisms are:

  • The cost of the aptitude tests of 100 SFr is borne by the young people and not by the companies that request the analysis.
  • The suitability analysis is weighted too heavily in individual companies when selecting personnel.
  • The social skills and behavioral characteristics of young people are not assessed.
  • If a candidate is interested in professions from different professions, they will have to take several tests.
  • The test results depend on the daily form.

The expert commission for advice and diagnostics, which belongs to the Swiss Service Center for Vocational Education and Training / Vocational, Study and Career Advice (SDBB) of the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Education Directors (EDK) (as well as a representative of the umbrella association for teachers in Switzerland) criticized the test because of its lack of transparency and traceability of the results: “Statements can be made as to whether the educational and intellectual requirements according to the Multicheck are met or not, and what the working style was when the test was carried out. However, the background and thus the quality of the statements remain unclear. "
