When the arrondissements were generally revised in 1926, the Gien and Pithiviers arrondissements were dissolved. Another reform in 1942 restored the Arrondissement of Pithiviers.
The Arrondissement Orléans was annexed in 1926:
- permanent: Ouzouer-sur-Loire and Sully-sur-Loire (detached from the Gien arrondissement, while the three other cantons were added to the Montargis arrondissement )
- 1926–1942: Malesherbes , Outarville and Pithiviers (detached from the Pithiviers arrondissement, while two other cantons - also for this period - were added to the Montargis arrondissement)
