Neuvy-en-Sullias is a French commune with 1,362 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Loiret in the region Center-Val de Loire and belongs to UNESCO World Heritage .

Geography and weather

It is located near the left bank of the Loire between Gien and Orléans , around 35 km away , in the Sologne countryside . The Leu flows through the village, draining most of the municipality with its tributaries and later flowing into the Loiret under the name Dhuy .

The climate is typically oceanic with a mild, rainy winter (3–4 ° C) and a damp and cool summer (16–18 ° C).

history

The place was named Noviacus (855) or Novus Vicus (900), which means something like "the new city". It is located in the former residential area of the Carnuten , under the name Cassiciate or Cassicion a stud located here is called.

During quarry work in 1861 several Gallo-Roman bronze statuettes were discovered on the left bank of the Loire , a horse, a deer, three wild boars and nine human figures, presumably depicting dancers. The horse sculpture contains an inscription dedicated to the god Rudiobus , it could indicate that the place was used as a stud farm early on. The bronzes were apparently only intended to be temporarily hidden in the underground room where they were found.
