Saint-Jean-le-Blanc is a commune with 8702 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loiret in the region Center-Val de Loire . The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement Orléans and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Saint-Jean-le-Blanc . The inhabitants are called Albijohanniciens .
geography
The municipality is located in the Loire Valley , which is listed here as a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Saint-Jean-le-Blanc is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Orléans in the north and west, Saint-Jean-de-Braye in the north-east, Saint-Denis-de-Val in the east, Saint-Denis-en-Val in the south-east and Saint- Cyr-en-Val to the southeast and south.
history
Saint-Jean-le-Blanc is located on the old Roman road between the Oppida Genabum (Orléans) and Gortona ( Sancerre ). Saint-Jean-le-Blanc is mentioned under his name for the first time in 1229. The chateau, built in 1233, was rededicated in 1578 to a convent of the Capuchin Order.
