Patay is a municipality in France with 2,190 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loiret in the region Center-Val de Loire . Patay belongs to the Arrondissement Orléans and the canton Meung-sur-Loire (until 2015: canton Patay ). The inhabitants are called patichons .

location

Patay is about 22 kilometers northwest of Orléans . Patay is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Terminiers in the north and northeast, Rouvray-Sainte-Croix in the east, Coinces in the south and southeast, Saint-Péravy-le-la-Colombe in the south, Villeneuve-sur-Conie in the west and Guillonville in the north-west.

history

On June 18, 1429, the English and French troops met here in the Battle of Patay . Under the leadership of Joan of Arc, the French managed to defeat the outnumbered English under John Fastolf and John Talbot.
