"Kirchenallee" at the beginning of July 2013

The so-called Kirchenallee consists of more than 50 chestnut trees and is located in Oberndorf am Lech in the Donau-Ries district . It is a designated natural monument.

The approx. 200 year old trees line an unpaved green path on the southern edge of the former Fugger Castle . Approx. ten of them are in the demarcated castle park that is not open to the public. Trees of life were planted directly next to the avenue to protect the castle from view . The avenue is infested with the horse chestnut leaf miner.

In the Middle Ages, the avenue served the "common people" as access to the castle chapel located on the top floor of the eastern castle tower. The path is still called "Kirchenallee" in Oberndorf and the surrounding area.
