The Darnsee is a stagnant body of water northeast of Bramsche in the Osnabrück district in Lower Saxony .

General

The Darnsee was created by a sinkhole . Underground salt deposits were dissolved by groundwater and the surface collapsed. The lake is about 400 m long and 200 m wide. There is a natural swimming pool on its east bank.

Nature reserve

In 1932 the lake and its immediate surroundings were designated as a nature reserve. It has a size of about 11 hectares and bears the statistical code "NSG WE 3". The area is congruent with FFH area 318.

Landscape image

The NSG is framed by oak-birch forests and pine forests. Larger alder and birch forests stretch near the shore, while further seaward, extensive reed beds are connected, which are mainly composed of reeds ( Phragmites australis ), pond rush ( Schoenoplectus lacustris ) and cattails.

Among the floristic peculiarities of the area are, or were: Thelypteris palustris ( Theylpteris palustris ), hedgehog hose ( Baldellia ranunculoides ), thread-sedge , Calla Lily ( Calla plaustris ) and cutting ( Cladium mariscus ).

As breeding birds so far u. a. Great crested grebe , little bittern , mallard , water rail and reed warbler detected.

In the Darnsee there are pike , pikeperch , perch and various white fish such as rudd , bleak , tench , carp , bream and the aland . The lake is used by the sport fishing club "Frühauf" Bramsche as a fishing water. In 2009, eel, perch, bream, bream, pike, crucian carp, carp, roach, rudd and tench were reported from the lake.
