Peter Weihe (born October 22, 1955 in Bremervörde ) is a German guitarist , producer , composer , arranger and university professor.

Life

Peter Weihe received piano lessons from 1966 and learned to play the guitar by himself. In 1973 he had his first appearances in "Onkel Pö" in Hamburg and other jazz clubs, sessions with musicians from the Hamburg scene (including Udo Lindenberg , Gottfried Böttger , Lonzo Westphal ) and founded the jazz-rock band "To Be", the compositions played by Peter Weihe. In 1974 he passed the Abitur in Bremervörde.

From 1975 he worked as a studio guitarist for international artists and producers and played in the jazz rock band "Kangaroo" (saxophone: Herb Geller , bass: Anselm Kluge , drums: Olaf Gustafson , keyboards: Claus Robert Kruse ). In 1980 he worked as a studio guitarist and arranger in Nashville with producer Tony Brown for Ian Cussick . In the same year the LP Kangaroo was released and in 1983 the LP Tierisch .

In 1982 he became a lecturer for guitar, rhythm and ensemble support when founding the popular music pilot project (now the pop course ), a contact course for popular music at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater . There he worked out the curriculum and developed the subject "Rhythm and Groove" with Anselm Kluge. In 1985 he became a lecturer in the pop course. In 1994 he was appointed part-time professor at the Hamburg University of Music and Drama for guitar, rhythm and band training. In addition, in 2011 the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media appointed him Professor of Producing / Recording and Ensemble for the Popular Music course.

Peter Weihe was voted "Guitarist of the Year" from 1989 to 1996 in the poll by the specialist magazine Musikmagazin . He has received several gold and platinum records and CDs.

Weihe was a founding member and board member of the Association of German Music Producers eV (MPAG) in 2004. He is a member of the advisory board of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg .

Peter Weihe lives in Norderstedt .
