Duesenberg was a rock formation from Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg .

Band history

Duesenberg was founded in 1976 by Harry Gutowski , Joachim Witt and Wolfgang Schleiter. The name was derived from the former luxury American car brand Duesenberg . A Duesenberg automobile graced the cover of the group's first three albums. In 1977, Duesenberg was the formation's first album, which sold around 17,000 copies. The songs California and Pasadena were released as singles.

A year later, Duesenberg 2 appeared . The two songs Deep in the River and All Over the Ocean were released .

The third album Strangers brought the band in 1980 the German Record Prize as best German newcomer band , even though they were four years active at the time.

Joachim Witt, who worked as an actor in Hamburg, was confronted with immense pressure to succeed after the third album. Since the financial breakthrough did not materialize and Witt began to suffer from panic attacks , he wrote the song Der goldene Reiter , which, however, did not seem to fit Duesenberg. So he left the band with Gutowski to start a new beginning with Neue Deutsche Welle and released his album Silberblick in 1980 .

Schleiter initially continued with a new line-up until the formation finally broke up after the publication of the last work Chapter 4 in 1981.

From 1992 to 1993 the band tried again to make a comeback with the two Maxis Coming Home and Judy on the Polydor label. However, a planned album with ten songs never appeared.

Music genre

The style of music was based on American West Coast rock. The biggest single hits California and Pasadena also reflected this style. However, there were also some pop songs on the albums.
