Naughty but Nice (Engl .; " Naughty , but nice") is the fourth studio album by German singer Sarah Connor , which was released on March 21, 2005 by X-Cell and Epic Records. It's Connor's first number one album.

background

For her fourth studio album, Sarah Connor worked again with producers Booya, Kay Denar and Rob Tyger after the baby break she took for her son. The song You're the Kinda Man comes from producer Johnny Douglas, who has worked with George Michael , Kylie Minogue and Tom Jones , among others . The album is mainly characterized by up-tempo numbers. Compared to the previous albums, soul facets and guitars come to the fore.

The first single was released on November 19, 2004, the ballad Living to Love You , with which the singer was able to place at number one in the single charts for the third time in a row . The second single, From Zero to Hero , which was released on March 7, 2005, went straight to number one on the charts. From Zero to Hero was also the theme song of the computer animation film Robots , in which Connor lent her voice to the robot lady Cappy .

The album was released on March 21st and entered the album charts at number one. In the first 48 hours, the album was able to sell over 100,000 times and thus achieved gold status . Naughty but Nice was awarded platinum in Germany and Switzerland and gold in Austria. It has sold more than 300,000 times.

Connor was able to get more involved in composition and content than in the previous albums. The songs describe people who are close to her and situations from her life. The song Happy Anniversary was written by Connor's husband at the time, Marc Terenzi , and was a gift from him for his first wedding anniversary. For the celebrity documentary Sarah & Marc in Love , which started on June 25, 2005, the song I Just Started Being Bad was used as the theme song. The song Change was used as the theme song for the 4-part German doctor series Beauty Queen , which was shown on RTL .

From October to November 2005 Connor presented the songs on the album live on their Naughty but Nice tour, which included 23 cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

reception

The reviews of Naughty but Nice have been mixed. Matthias Reichel from CDStarts.de awards five out of ten possible points and praises the single releases. The album, on the other hand, functions as a “collection of mostly second-rate pop, soul and R&B songs”. Reichel positively highlights the song Living to Love You , which he describes as a “soulful ballad in the early Mariah Carey style”. He also praises the songs From Zero to Hero and You're the Kinda Man . Compared to the previous album Key to My Soul , the work leaves a better impression and the quality curve is pointing upwards again.

Michael Schuh from Laut.de only gives one of five possible points. He describes the album as lacking in ideas. You already know a lot from Connor's previous albums. The work offers "15 warbler numbers produced for the ringtone industry" and the album is "lower class music for the village disco around the corner".
