Open eyes is a song by Sarah Connor . It was released on November 18, 2016 as the fifth and final single outcoupling of their eighth studio album Native (2015).

Song info

Augen auf was written and produced by Daniel Faust, Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer. In terms of content, the song calls for solidarity with refugees and thus sets an example against Pegida , the Islamic State and human hatred in general.

Sarah Connor wanted to position herself politically with the song. It was published in the middle of the so-called refugee crisis in Germany and was also used specifically at concerts by Sarah Connor. So it was always played towards the end of the performance and the audience should hold hands during the song. In the background, the image of Alan Kurdi , whose body was washed ashore on the Turkish Mediterranean coast after drowning, was projected onto the screen.

The song was used by the TV broadcaster RTL as a campaign song for the RTL donation marathon .

reception

Sven Kanbelitz called eyes in his review of the album Native to Laut.de "poignant track" as the album. Sarah Coonor admittedly "lapsed again several times into long-worn pictures (...), nevertheless [succeeded] in making a clear statement against Pegida, IS and human hatred."

Thomas Kölsch from General-Anzeiger discussed Sarah Connor's concert at the Kunst! Rasen in Bonn in front of 4500 spectators. He described the song as a "really big moment", while otherwise criticizing the lack of content in the other titles. On the other hand, a “clear statement against terror and xenophobia” would be set up.
