content

The song "Vincent" is about confusion and pain in love. Among other things, with Vincent , who realizes that he is gay and has fallen in love with a man. He turns to his mother and receives encouragement from her. Furthermore, the song is about Linda and Ben, who are referred to as the "perfect couple" but split up again. Finally, Vincent's situation is taken up again: He has "two children and a strong man."

Background and reception

Connor wrote the play after learning from a friend that her son was gay, the name Vincent is fictional. Connor told the taz that Vincent was "the most important song [she] has done so far".

Some radio stations do not play the piece because of the phrase "Vincent doesn't get a point when he thinks of girls" that the song begins with. Others play the song without this first sentence, but numerous stations also broadcast the song uncensored . During a live appearance in prime time on the ProSieben show Schlag den Star , Connor also presented the uncensored version.

Idolator describes the song as an "uplifting pop anthem".
