Mother tongue is the eighth studio album by the German singer Sarah Connor and her first in German , which was released by Polydor on May 22, 2015 . It is Connor's second number one album after their fourth English-language studio album Naughty but Nice (2005).

background

With his mother tongue Connor brought out an album in German for the first time. She was involved in text and music. The first ten songs were written together with the producer trio von Rosenstolz , Peter Plate , Ulf Leo Sommer and Daniel Faust. On May 1, 2015, the first single from the album How beautiful you are was released . It took second place in the German single charts. The girl in the music video is played by Helena Siegmund-Schultze .

The studio album reached number one in the charts in Germany and Switzerland . Five months after its first entry, the album topped the German charts again in November 2015. The deluxe edition contains three of the songs that Connor performed at Sing mein Song - Das Tauschkonzert in 2014 , these are Nobody is like you , I breathe in and I Feel Lonely . Her self-written English-language songs Unlove You , Come Home and Close to Crazy are also included on the album.

reception

  • Thomas Winkler, music critic of the time , was “impressed” by the album Mutterssprache and described it as a “mostly positive surprise”: “Because measured against what German soul pop has done in recent years, Sarah Connor swings out of it with her mother tongue Stand up to the one-eyed among the blind. "
  • "Musically, one can hear the collaboration with the former Rosenstolz production team around Peter Plate in the 13 songs: catchy minor melodies, plucked guitars and piano, here and there a crescendo," writes Johanna Bruckner in the Süddeutsche Zeitung and asks whether Sarah Connor is the new Helene Fischer . She denies this, but thinks that Connor, if at all, is the better Helene Fischer.

Sales, awards and promotion

The album was awarded eleven gold awards in Germany for 1,100,000 albums sold. In Austria, mother tongue took third place in the charts and was awarded platinum . At the 25th Echo Awards on April 7, 2016, Connor received an award in the category "Artist National Pop / Rock". Mother tongue was also nominated in the “Album of the Year” category. In March 2016 the “mother tongue tour” began .
