Rosenstolz is a music duo from Berlin , consisting of the singer AnNa R. and the songwriter and singer Peter Plate . The group was founded in 1991 in Berlin-Friedrichshain .

The songs, which are almost always sung in German, were initially stylistically somewhere between pop , chanson and rock . Especially at the beginning of their career, Rosenstolz produced music with often ambiguous texts. At that time (early to mid-1990s), the Berlin media coined the term “mundane pop” for their style.

From the year 2000 the chanson elements took more and more into the background and the pop elements came more into the foreground.

On December 20, 2012, the artists announced that they were taking an indefinite break.

In 2012 AnNa R. started working on new music with some old bandmates and friends. Your new band is called Gleis 8 .

On August 30, 2018, Peter Plate presented a previously unreleased song for the first time since the breakup. In addition, a new best-of album was released, which Plate helped put together.

AnNa R. (civil: Andrea Neuenhofen, née Rosenbaum) was born on December 25, 1969 in Berlin-Friedrichshain and grew up in East Berlin . She still lives in Berlin-Friedrichshain. She failed the entrance exam at the Friedrichshain Music School . Before her breakthrough as a singer, she worked as a chemistry lab technician and as a music dealer to finance her vocal training. She has been married to Nilo Neuenhofen since November 2002.

Peter Plate was born on July 1, 1967 in New Delhi , where his grandfather was a diplomat. Plate's biological father died of a brain tumor before he was born. Before moving to Berlin in 1990, Plate lived for a long time in Goslar and Braunschweig and for a shorter time in Hamburg . Today he lives in Berlin-Charlottenburg. Long before the founding of the Rosenstolz duo, he tried his hand at music: as a teenager, he wrote a musical with friends and produced some music cassettes, albeit without widespread publication. Since 1990 Plate has lived with Ulf Leo Sommer , who worked as a producer, composer and lyricist for Rosenstolz. On June 1, 2002, they became a partner .

history

AnNa R. and Peter Plate met through the landlord of Plate's apartment. They started writing songs and recording them on a four-track cassette recorder . Some of these demo versions can still be found today on singles as B-side or on the albums Sanfte Verführer , Raritäten and Raritäten II .

At the beginning, Rosenstolz played in front of a very small audience. They gave their first concert in October 1991 at the Bellevue Gallery in Berlin, with just under 30 people in attendance. In 1992 they were booed at one of their concerts in the SchwuZ gay center in Berlin . A recording of the song Klaustrophobie from one of their first concerts can be seen in the 14th episode of the gay television series Licht und Schatten by Andreas Weiß . However, rose pride's popularity grew year by year.

In May 1997, at the invitation of the Goethe Institute , Rosenstolz played a concert in front of around 10,000 spectators in Novosibirsk . This year they also reached the first chart position with their album Die Schlampen sind müde . A leap in their career was an appearance in 1998 at the national preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Herzensschöner , where they came in second. In 2000 Rosenstolz conquered the top of the charts with cash poison and slowly hit the music TV stations with the clip for the single Amo Vitam . The big breakthrough came in 2004 with the single Liebe ist alles and the album Herz .

At their live concerts, Rosenstolz is accompanied by a seven-piece band, some of whose musicians have been touring with the duo for many years. The last line-up includes Fabian (keyboards, piano), Peter Koobs (guitar), Thomy Jordi ( electric bass ), Ulrich “Ulle” Rode (guitar) and Jens Carstens ( drums and percussion ). Long-time guitarist Ralf Lübke left the band after the welcome tour in order to have more time for his own group Monkeeman . Ulrich “Ulle” Rode was a new addition to him. Zoran Grujovski has been replaced by a new musician named Fabian since the Are you there tour. Lorenzo Allacher ( saxophone and acoustic guitar, formerly sax with Blechreiz ) and Anne de Wolff ( violin , accordion ) completed the band.

Every now and then Rosenstolz take a political stance in their songs, such as the Iraq war in 2003 with the title Laut or in 1999 with a comment on the gay marriage that was just discussed at the time in Yes, I want together with Hella von Sinnen . In the accompanying video, directed by Marcus Sternberg , the duet partners (von Sinnen and Plate) appear together with their partners Cornelia Scheel and Ulf Leo Sommer. Plate also criticized the negative attitude towards homosexuals on the Das Großes Leben tour.

Other singles were none of that (I'm sorry) , I'm going up in flames , Even in the rain and out of love I want to know everything . All singles were successful and ended up in the top 20. But the most successful was the album itself: After a total of 5 weeks at number 1 and around 40 weeks in the top 10, it became their most successful album to date. In Austria, too, Rosenstolz achieved the top spot for the first time. In total, more than a million copies of The Great Life were sold.

They were also awarded the Fred Jay Prize in the same year . On May 30, 2007, the city of Goslar honored Peter Plate's musical work with the Paul-Lincke-Ring .

On August 29, 2008, the single Gib mir Sonne was released , the forerunner of the band's new album, Die Suche geht weiter, which will be released on September 26th . With Gib mir Sonne Rosenstolz managed for the first time in her career to reach the top spot in the German single charts; The album also reached number one in the German charts and has platinum status. In November 2008, Rosenstolz started her " Are you there" tour 08/09 , which ended prematurely on January 26, 2009 in Hamburg and included 30 indoor concerts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The last two concerts in Cologne and Hanover as well as the additional open-air tour with 15 dates planned for summer 2009 were canceled due to illness.

On February 11th, 2009, Rosenstolz announced on their homepage that Plate had burnout syndrome , whereupon all appointments of the duo were canceled. On February 21st, Rosenstolz won the echo for best video nationally and her social commitment against AIDS.

After the singles Wie weit ist über und Bruecken , the title Ich bin mein Haus was released on September 11th, 2009 with new versions of their hits from the album The Search Goes On .

On World AIDS Day 2009, Rosenstolz was awarded the Saxon Medal of Honor “For outstanding achievements in the fight against HIV and AIDS” by the Saxon State Ministry for Social Affairs and Consumer Protection.

In 2011 Rosenstolz celebrated its 20th anniversary. Fittingly, the band's record company announced in a press release on July 27, 2011 that the new single Wir sind am Leben will be released on September 9, 2011 . The album of the same name then followed on September 23, 2011. With that, Rosenstolz returned after a break of almost three years. On February 17, 2012, the pop duo announced that they would take another “ creative break ”. As a result, in addition to a television appearance with Carmen Nebel , the appearance at Echo 2012 on March 22, 2012, for which Rosenstolz was nominated in the group rock / pop national category, was canceled. According to the Universal record company, AnNa R.'s vocal cord inflammation was the reason for the renewed break and the canceled performances.

On December 19, 2012, Rosenstolz announced on their website that they would take another break for an indefinite period of time: "We talked a lot, laughed and cried a lot and we noticed that we have so much in common and that we have experienced and achieved so much together, that now is the best moment to give each other space. [...] Exactly for this we give each other time and let go for the moment. "

On August 30, 2018, Rosenstolz returned in the sixth year of their creative break with the previously unreleased song When it starts now . However, it is not a new production, but a previously unreleased recording that was actually intended for the last album Wir sind am Leben . On September 28, 2018, the best-of album Lass es Liebe sein - The most beautiful songs was released , which Plate also contributed to compiling and which he supplemented with alternative versions and unpublished demos. According to Peter Plate, joint appearances are still not planned. However, AnNa R. and Peter Plate got together again for a special edition of Radio Rosenstolz , which was uploaded to YouTube on October 3, 2018 . For this purpose, both interviewed each other and listened to a few of the songs on the Best-Of.
