Soubrette I'll never be is the first studio album by the Berlin pop band Rosenstolz , released in 1992. There was also another edition, limited to 100 copies, with a different cover.

History of origin

The release of the album in the winter of 1992 was preceded by a year and a half, during which AnNa R. and Peter Plate met regularly in the kitchen of Plate's Friedrichshain backyard apartment to write songs. They recorded the songs on a four-track tape and released three cassettes which they sold privately. With the release of the album, the desired success did not materialize. The band was ignored by the radio and so it stayed with a few television appearances.

After switching to the major label Polydor, the album was released in 1996 in a new edition in a modified form. For example, the new edition did not include the title Queen , as it was re-recorded for the album “Die Schlampen sind müde”. The acoustic finale was also left out.

Monthly songs

January (when the Mona Lisa cries) is the start of the monthly songs. On every Rosenstolz album, from the debut Soubrette I will never until the heart album 2004, a song with special meaning has a month in the title. According to Peter Plate, the idea came about as follows: “We had this funny idea while we were working on our second album. On our first album there was the song 'January' and our producer at the time Tom Müller said: 'How do you find the idea of releasing the song' February 'on the second album?' AnNa and I thought the idea was brilliant and said we should do that with every album! At that time we didn't know that, to everyone's surprise, we would actually go through with this until the 'December' song. […] Incidentally, these songs are particularly close to us and we wanted to knock them down. "
