We are alive is the twelfth studio album by the Berlin pop duo Rosenstolz , which was released on September 23, 2011.

background

The album was released on the band's 20th anniversary as a comeback album after an almost three-year hiatus after Plate fell ill with burnout syndrome in 2009. It contains eleven titles, including the theme song We Are Alive .

According to Plate, the title of the album and the single We Are Alive was only created after the song was finished: “The song was written before. It was only at the end, so to speak, when we were looking for an album title and thought that it was very appropriate. ”The song was“ packed ”with“ questions about life ”and so Rosenstolz's answer was:“ As long as you are alive and able to love and as long as your heart catches fire, everything is actually fine. "

The twelfth studio album was recorded between February 2009 and July 2011 in London, Barcelona and Berlin. Many of the songs on the album deal with Plate's fight against burnout, including the title My Life in the Ashtray and Energy Others, sung by him, such as the song The Forgotten Song, is about Plate's separation from his partner Ulf Leo Sommer. The brass parts in the song Überdosis Glück come from the Berlin band Seeed , which has their studio in Kreuzberg right across from the Rosenstolz office. Rosenstolz will be accompanied by the Berlin Boys Choir for the song Energie , and the New York singer Scott Matthew , with whom Plate is friends, will be performing for the last track, Beautiful . The song was initially written by Ulf Leo Sommer and Daniel Faust, but something positive was missing and so after a concert in Berlin Matthew sang the line "make it beautiful now" again, taken from Matthew's song German .

Christian Scheuß writes in the gay and lesbian magazine on queer.de: Rosenstolz have not reinvented themselves. They pick up where they left off. With the tried and tested means: ambiguous texts that Tomte can't do better, catchy, colorful melodies with a bit of pomp and pathos here and there.
