Green Eyed Soul is the debut album by the German singer Sarah Connor from 2001. It hit the charts in many European countries.
background
For her debut album, Connor worked for several months with producers Kay Denar, Rob Tyger, Bülent Aris, Daniel Troha and Triage. Connor explained the title Green Eyed Soul as follows:
“In America in the 1960s, R'nB music played by white artists was called blue-eyed soul. My eyes are green, my music comes from the soul - Green Eyed Soul, "
Before Connor's debut album was released on November 26, 2001, three singles were already released from it. The debut single Let's Get Back to Bed - Boy! was released in May 2001, made it to the top 10 in four countries and debuted at number 16 on the UK charts. For this, Sarah Connor received the Comet from the music channel VIVA in the Newcomer National category . In August 2001, the second single French Kissing followed .
With the third single From Sarah with Love , which was released three weeks before the album, she made it to number one in the German charts for the first time. The song was nominated for “Best National Single” at the 2002 Echo Awards and went platinum. In addition to Germany, it also landed first in the charts in Switzerland, Poland and Portugal and reached the top 10 in Austria, Belgium, Finland, the Netherlands and Greece. In total, From Sarah with Love was in the charts in Switzerland for 36 weeks, 22 weeks in the Austrian charts, 17 weeks in the Swedish charts and 11 weeks in the Finnish charts. The song If U Were My Man was released as the fourth and final single in July 2002 only in Finland.
Green Eyed Soul entered the German album charts at number three and reached gold status within a week. In the third week of the chart, the album reached its highest ranking at number two. The album reached number 28 in the German album charts in 2002. It also made it into the top 10 in Austria and Switzerland and reached the top 20 in Finland, Poland, Greece, Holland and Portugal.
The album offers a mix of ballads, R'n'B pieces, hip-hop parts and black music. The first song that Connor recorded for the album was Where Do We (Go from Here) . The songs Let's Get Back to Bed - Boy! and Magic Ride (Whatever U Wish 4), the American R&B and hip-hop singer TQ is a guest singer. He wrote and produced the song Can't Get None especially for Connor's debut album . The song In My House is a cover of the Mary Jane Girls song of the same name .
reception
Michael Frömmer from Laut.de gives the album two out of five possible points. He praises Sarah Connor's vocal potential and the CD's running time, which with 17 tracks and one hour running time is a rarity. Sarah Connor is too inauthentic for soul music on the album because she lacks passion. The first two single releases Let's Get Back to Bed, Boy! and French Kissing describes Frömmer as “sample-overloaded retort hits”. He considers other songs to be lyrically more sophisticated, but most of them offer only familiar music.
