Soulicious is the fifth studio album by the German singer Sarah Connor . It was released on March 30, 2007 by X-Cell.
background
Connor's fifth studio album is dedicated to American soul classics from the 1960s and 1970s. The album, which was released after Connor's second baby break, was produced by Kay Denar and Rob Tyger, who have also worked on previous Connor productions. With the exception of the self-written titles Soothe My Soul and Soulicious , the album only contains cover versions . Together with a 48-piece symphony orchestra , Connor recorded the songs in the studio room 4 of the former Berlin radio . The conductor was Joris Bartsch Buhle. During the recordings, each piece was played live with instruments.
The song Your Precious Love is a posthumously duet with the American soul legend Marvin Gaye , who died already 1984th Connor was allowed to use the soundtrack of Marvin Gaye's vocals for the song. It was the first time Gaye's estate administrators had allowed an artist to do this outside of the United States.
Simultaneously with the album, the first single The Impossible Dream (The Quest) was released on March 30, 2007 , which reached number 8 in the German single charts. The song was the official song for the comeback of Henry Maske . The second single Sexual Healing followed on June 29, 2007 . The US R&B singer Ne-Yo , whom Connor met while working on Soulicious in Berlin in March 2007 , was able to be won as a guest singer . The singers recorded the new version of the song separately for scheduling reasons. While Ne-Yo recorded his part in Atlanta , Connor recorded hers in Berlin . In the music video, which contains scenes from the film 9½ weeks , you can see a double by Ne-Yo. The song Son of a Preacher Man was only released as a promotional single .

reception
Joachim Gauger from Laut.de gives the album two out of five possible points. He praises the duet with Marvin Gaye; Sarah Connor has rarely been heard singing so sensually as in this song. He also praises her interpretation of Get It Right . Sexual healing, on the other hand, works arbitrarily, almost soulless, and her version of If It's Magic represents downright rape.
Matthias Reichel from CDStats.de awards four out of ten possible points. He thinks that Soulicious , Soothe My Soul and Your Precious Love stand out positively from the rest in terms of their vocal performance . All other songs sound like trying, but not convincing.
