action
In New York, the wealthy stockbroker John runs into the art gallery owner Elizabeth, who works in SoHo , in the neighborhood of China Town . After a brief flirtation, they meet again a short time later in Greenwich Village , where John spontaneously gives her an expensive designer scarf. Both get to know each other and get involved in a sexual relationship in which they practice new, more stimulating varieties, including those with a sadomasochistic nature. The dominant John is always testing new limits, but cannot or does not want to get involved in an emotional relationship. When Elizabeth, at John's request and suggestion , is to be pampered blindfolded by a prostitute , she feels that it goes beyond her limits. When John tries to open up to Elizabeth emotionally, it is already too late. Elizabeth pulls the emergency brake and ends the relationship that has left her emotionally stressful. After a little over nine weeks, she leaves her lover. John is left desperate.

Reviews
In one of his articles, the journalist Roger Ebert compares 9½ weeks with The Last Tango in Paris . Ebert mentions the erotic tension between Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke and praises the chemistry between the main actors. Like many films with explicitly sexual images, 9½ weeks risked crossing the line of ridiculousness. The fascinating thing, however, is that it shows a woman who confidently decides what she is ready to do and what not. The actors would also convince in their roles.
Awards
The film was nominated in 1986 in three categories for the negative award Golden Raspberry : For Kim Basinger for worst actress, for worst song I Do What I Do (by Jonathan Elias, John Taylor, Michael Des Barres) and for worst script. The film received the distinction of valuable from the German Film and Media Assessment (FBW) .
reception
In addition to its erotic content, the film is also known for its Asian-inspired fashion. John opens a closet that contains a large number of identical shirts from the designer house Comme des Garçons . In addition to this product placement , the film also re-popularized Joe Cocker 's version of Randy Newman's You Can Leave Your Hat On . The idea of the love scene with food included in the film was found in the comedy Hot Shots! - The mother of all films revisited in a slightly different form. The film is quoted in Sheena Easton's music videos for Days Like This and Sarah Connor's version of Sexual Healing . In 2014, 9 1/2 Weeks: An Erotic XXX Parody, a porn parody of the original film was released.
