Margaret Whitton

Margaret Whitton (born November 30, 1949 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † December 4, 2016 in Palm Beach , Florida ) was an American actress .

Career

Whitton began her career on the Broadway stage before gaining worldwide fame in the 1980s through supporting roles in hit movies. These films include Rocket Man , 9½ Weeks , The Secret of My Success (in which she played Michael J. Fox's seductive aunt ), Spurge, and The Faceless Man . In the baseball film The Indians of Cleveland and the sequel The Indians of Cleveland II , she played the imaginary ex-showgirl Rachel Phelps , who inherits a baseball club from her husband.

On television, she starred in the 1991 sitcom Good & Evil , of which eleven episodes were produced but only six aired before being canceled by the American Broadcasting Company . From the mid-1990s she turned back to the theater as an actor and has not played any film or television roles since.

Behind the camera, Whitton was the director and producer of A Bird of the Air in 2011 , which starred Rachel Nichols , Anjanette Comer and Linda Emond . She also managed the production company Tashtego Films .

Private life

Margaret Whitton was married to Warren Spector, the former co-president of the now-defunct US investment bank Bear Stearns , for the second time since 1993 . She was a fan of the New York Yankees baseball team . Margaret Whitton died of cancer in December 2016 at the age of 67.
