Above all, she wants to gain independence, find love and be accepted into the (fictional) Pittsburgh Conservatory of Dance .

Alex also meets privately with her boss Nick Hurley. When she sees him with another woman, she gets angry and throws in the windows of his house. She later learns from him that he met his ex-wife, who sits next to him on the boards of several charitable organizations.

Nick uses his relationships and arranges an audition for Alex. However, since Alex is self-taught and has not had any professional dance training, she presents her own choreography. After a small mishap, she was able to convince the judges and was accepted.

Most of the reviews refer to the plot of the film, less to the musical and dance performance.

  • “An hour and a half advertising film that advertises itself and nothing else, at most for the LP with the rock music soundtrack - the record is also absolutely nothing and would not be for sale without the film. The fact that almost all over the world teenagers pay for films and records is a triumph of the advertising industry over the cinema. ”- Der Spiegel , 36/1983
  • “In terms of choreography and editing, a perfect musical film with nothing in terms of story and a sociologically ridiculous background. Thanks to the sympathetic leading actress and beautiful dance scenes, however, playful undemanding entertainment. ”- Lexicon of international film
  • “(…) Bloated rock video, styled for a large audience (…); Cult film, otherwise overrated. ”(Rating: 2½ stars = above average) - Adolf Heinzlmeier and Berndt Schulz in Lexicon“ Films on TV ” (extended new edition). Rasch and Röhring, Hamburg 1990, ISBN 3-89136-392-3 , p. 232
