Mitch Leigh
Mitch Leigh , actually Irwin Michnick , (born January 30, 1928 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York , † March 16, 2014 in Manhattan , New York City, New York) was an American composer and theater producer .
Life
Mitch Leigh attended Yale University in New Haven . There he was taught by Paul Hindemith , among others . He later wrote plays , composed operas , commercial music and jazz pieces . His greatest success was the musical The Man of La Mancha , which he wrote with Dale Wasserman (book) and Joe Darion (lyrics). He later founded the Music Makers organization , which specialized in promotional melodies.
