Mark Robert Michael Wahlberg , formerly Marky Mark , (born June 5, 1971 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American actor , singer and film producer . He became known in 1991 as the front man of the hip-hop group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch and as a model for Calvin Klein . After a musical collaboration with Prince Ital Joe and Alex Christensen in the mid-1990s, Wahlberg entered the film business and experienced his breakthrough as an actor with the tragic comedy Boogie Nights (1997). For his role in Departed , he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2007. He is the younger brother of the singer and actor Donnie Wahlberg .

Life

The son of delivery driver Donald E. Wahlberg Sr. († 2008) and bank clerk and nurse Alma Elaine Donnelly was born as the youngest of nine siblings Arthur, Jim, Paul, Robert, Tracey, Michelle, Debbie († 2003) and Donnie. He grew up in Dorchester , a multi-ethnic working-class neighborhood of Boston with a high crime rate. Despite the full-time work of the parents, the family lived on the poverty line. The marriage ended in divorce in 1982.

Wahlberg attended Copley Square High School in Boston, but left without a degree. He also helped develop nutritional supplements that are sold under the name “MarkedNutrition”.

Private life
