Mile 22 is an American action movie by Peter Berg from the year 2018 . In the USA the film was released on August 17, 2018, in Germany it was released on September 13, 2018.

Elite agent James Silva is the head of the US secret organization Overwatch , which the US government calls in whenever diplomacy or official military interventions do not lead to the desired result. Silva and his team have to rescue the spy Li Noor from a fictional country in Asia because he has important information about the whereabouts of radioactive cesium . However, Noor's enemies are lurking on the 22-mile path between the US embassy where Noor is staying and the airport, trying to prevent his escape. When Silva's team successfully brings Noor to the airport after violent confrontations with the attackers, it turns out that Noor was a triple secret agent hired by the Russian government to lure the Overwatch team into a trap. At the same time, the rest of the Overwatch team in Colombia is attacked by Russian attackers, killing all but the chief of operations there, Bishop.

A sequel to the film was announced even before Mile 22 opened in theaters. The film premiered on August 9, 2018 in Los Angeles. He was accepted into the Amazon Prime Video program on May 13, 2020 .

The film received mostly negative reviews. At Rotten Tomatoes , 22 percent of the 177 reviews collected are positive, while at Metacritic 38 percent of 36 reviews are positive.

For Kai Mihm from epd Film , the force of previous Peter Berg films such as Lone Survivor (2013) or Operation: Kingdom (2007) is missing . As We Mile 22 is "in a completely trivial context" from where "[n] [that] maybe even quite exciting action scenes [...] truly original" are.

Thomas Söcker from Moviebreak.de cannot deny the film “a certain fascination […]”, but Mile 22 often gets in its own way due to its “excessive staging and tonal indecision”.

For Screenrush is Mile 22 "a meaningful and sustainable monotonous action fireworks," which is on the "home stretch suddenly be much more subversive demonstration [t]" and, however, ultimately is "more of a interesting than a really good movie."

The film service, however, praised Mile 22 as a “clever action film” that brings “a variety of military surveillance technology into play” and shows “brilliant martial arts at close range”.

The film played worldwide 66.3 million US dollars , of which a 36.1 million US dollars in the US.
