Pout is a town in the department of Thiès in Thiès Region , located in the central west of Senegal .

Geographical location

Pout is located in the west of the Thiès department , halfway between the cities of Thiès and Sébikotane, not far from the border with the Dakar metropolitan region .

Pout is located 43 kilometers east of Dakar and 15 kilometers west of the regional prefecture of Thiès

history

A map of the French possessions between Senegal and Gambia in 1878 shows a single other named place in the triangle of the places Rufisque , Thiès and Saly Portudal , namely Pout, which was therefore of particular importance even before the construction of the railway line from Dakar to Saint-Louis in 1885 was. It was important to the cartographers that the Somone valley path begins at Pout and flows into a lagoon near Saly Portudal.

In 1990 the communauté rurale de Pout was split up. From the main town Pout one was Commune created as an urban community, surrounded on all sides by the communauté rurale Keur Moussa .

Pout is located on the Dakar – Saint-Louis railway line, opened in 1885 , which was later supplemented in Thiès by a branch for freight traffic in the peanut basin and with neighboring Mali.

The national road N 2 runs on the southern outskirts of the city . It connects Pout to the west with Sébikotane , Diamniadio , Bargny and the major cities of the Dakar metropolitan area and to the east with the important traffic junction Thiès and then, following the Grande-Côte and the left bank of Senegal , with cities such as Tivaouane , Louga , Saint-Louis , Richard Toll , Dagana , Ourossogui in the north and east of the country and most recently with Kidira on the Malian border.

Dakar-Blaise Diagne International Airport is 11 kilometers south of the city.
