Richard Toll is the largest city in the Dagana department in the Saint-Louis region , located in northern Senegal on the border with Mauritania .

Geographical location

Richard Toll is located in the north of the Saint-Louis region , 100 kilometers from the Saint-Louis regional prefecture and 20 kilometers from the Dagana prefecture . The city is located on the left southern bank of the Senegal River , which meanders to the west , and in the middle of which runs the border with Mauritania. Before the Diama Dam was built , the influence of the tides made itself felt through the regular rise and fall of the water level in the river, even beyond Richard Toll .

The 16 kilometer long canal from Lac de Guiers to Senegal ends in the urban area . Along the river and between it and Lac de Guiers there are extensive areas to the west and east of the city that are intensively used for agriculture by means of artificial irrigation.
