Kidira is a municipality in eastern Senegal . It is located in the Bakel department in the Tambacounda region .

Geographical location

Kidira is located in the east of Senegal on the border river Falémé . Two bridges, a road bridge and a railway bridge lead to the neighboring town of Diboli on the other side of the border with Mali . The city is located around 600 km east of the capital Dakar . Next to Bakel and Diawara, Kidira is the third town in the Bakel department.

climate

Due to the Harmattan wind blowing from the east , temperatures rise from March to June to up to 40 ° C. Then the southwest monsoon brings the rainy season in August and September. In the winter months, temperatures are more moderate with an average of 23 ° C. The strong easterly winds contribute significantly to soil erosion in the region.

Administrative division and population

Kidira was made a community ( commune ) on July 14, 2008 and consists of the settlements Kidira, Sinthiou Dioyé, Diboly and Bocar . 50% of the population are young people, the proportion of women predominates. The people belong to the ethnic groups of the Peulh , Bambara , Soninké , Maure and Wolof . The 2013 census gave the city a population of 10,065.

Mayor is Demba Thiam from the Alliance pour la république (APR) , who replaced the previous incumbent Mamadou Diallo from the Parti Démocratique Sénégalais (PDS) after the election on July 14, 2014 .

Transport and infrastructure

As a regionally important traffic junction, Kidira is on the national road N 1 , which connects Dakar in a west-east direction via Tambacounda with the border with Mali, and on the N 2 , which leads from Pout in the west via Saint-Louis on a northern route to Kidira. In addition, the Kidira train station is the border station to Mali on the Dakar – Niger railway line .

In Kidira there are posts of the gendarmerie, the Direction de le police de l'air et des frontiéres (DPAF) , which is comparable to an immigration authority, the customs authority as well as a health center and a post office. There are various schools, training centers and kindergartens.

With the Württemberg Baden- community Pfinztal is Kidira linked since 2012 by a project partnership of the local nature lovers has been initiated in the district -Ortsgruppe Berghausen.
