The Parti Démocratique Sénégalais ( Senegalese Democratic Party , PDS) is a political party in Senegal . The party defines itself as liberal and is a member of the Liberal International .

When it was founded in 1974, Abdoulaye Wade , later President of Senegal, was the party leader. After the presidential election in 2000 , he replaced Abdou Diouf from the Socialist Party . Since the parliamentary elections in 2001 that followed, the PDS ruled as the largest party of the so-called Sopi coalition . In the 2007 elections, which were boycotted by the main opposition parties, the Sopi coalition won 131 of the 150 parliamentary seats in the National Assembly . Also Macky Sall , the calf in 2012 replaced by a runoff election as President of Senegal, began his political career in the PDS.
