The Kidira station is the train station in the city Kidira and is in the course of the Dakar-Niger railway . It is the border station between the states of Senegal and Mali . Until 2008 international passenger traffic took place via the station. In 2017, there was only freight traffic between the states on the railway in the Kidira area .

Planned route modernization

In 2007 the President of Senegal, Abdoulaye Wade , announced the expansion of the Dakar-Niger railway line as one of a series of major projects ( grands projets ). From Dakar to Kidira station, the route is to be changed to standard gauge. In 2012 the plan was expanded. The line is also to be electrified. In 2015/16 an expansion contract was signed with the China Railway Construction Corporation .
