Diofior is a town in the department of Fatick the Fatick region , located in the central west of Senegal .
Geographical location
Diofior is located in the southwest of the Fatick department and, 29 kilometers from the Petite-Côte near Joal-Fadiouth , on the northwestern edge of the Saloum Delta , which extends even further north from here and limits the accessibility of the city to a single north-facing land corridor. The department prefecture of Fatick can only be reached in a roundabout way.
The extensive delta of the Saloum estuary is shaped in the flat coastal hinterland by the tidal current reaching far inland , which has created a broadly branched, impassable amphibious system of bolons , islands and mangrove forests from the lower reaches of the Saloum, extending up to 70 kilometers in the south to the Gambian border.
Diofior is 104 kilometers southeast of Dakar and 33 kilometers southwest of Fatick.
history
The village of Diofior was founded in the 19th century and since 1972 has been the capital of a communauté rurale (rural community) of the same name. In 1990 Diofior achieved the status of a commune (city). Associated with this was the outsourcing of the urban area from the area of the rural community, whose main town and namesake from then on was the village of Djilasse .

traffic
Diofior is off the network of national roads . A 28-kilometer-long paved road, which branches off the N 1 halfway between Mbour and Fatick , connects the city with the rest of the country. After passing through Diofior, the piste continues to Fimela and ends in the touristy town of Ndangane Campement on the banks of the Marigot de Guilor .
There, 11 kilometers south of Diofior, there is also an airfield with a 1,100 meter runway.
