Panazol ( Occitan Panasòu ) is a commune with 10,972 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Haute-Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality is part of the arrondissement of Limoges and the canton of Panazol , of which it is the chief town (chief lieu).
geography
Panazol is located east of Limoges on Route nationale 141 to Clermont-Ferrand . The Vienne River forms the northern boundary of the municipality . The small tributary Auzette flows here along the Cordelas ponds and flows into the Vienne.
Panazol is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Le Palais-sur-Vienne in the north, Saint-Just-le-Martel in the east, Feytiat in the southeast and Limoges in the west.
history
At the end of the 11th century, when the first church was built here, the area belonged to the Abbey of Saint-Martial de Limoges. The settlement became important as a hostel on Via Lemovicensis , one of the Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela . Around 1790 Panazol had about 450 inhabitants and in 1795 the place became chef-lieu of the canton Panazol.

Community partnerships
Panazol has had partnerships with the Spanish municipality of Picanya in the province of Valencia and Târgu Neamț in Romania since 1992 . A partnership with the German municipality of Markt Erlbach has existed since 2013 .
