Nieul ( Occitan : Nuèlh ) is a municipality with 1647 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the French department of Haute-Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . Nieul is part of the canton of Couzeix (until 2015: canton of Nieul ) in the arrondissement of Limoges . The inhabitants are called nieulois .
geography
Nieul is about twelve kilometers northwest of Limoges . The river Glane crosses the municipality. Nieul is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Jouvent in the north and north-east, Chaptelat in the east, Couzeix in the south and south-east, Saint-Gence in the west and Peyrilhac in the north-west.
The national route 147 runs along the eastern edge of the municipality .
