Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche [ sɛtiʁjɛlapɛʁʃ ] Sent Iries in Occitan , is a town of 6,766 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the French department of Haute-Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche is the capital of the canton of the same name in the Limoges arrondissement and the seat of the Pays de Saint-Yrieix municipality . It is the sixth largest municipality in the department in terms of population and the largest in terms of area. It is one of six access points to the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park .

geography

The municipality is located in the south of the Haute-Vienne department, 40 kilometers from Limoges. The land of Saint Yrieix, which is on the border with the Corrèze and Dordogne departments , is the link between the Limousin and Aquitaine . The municipal area consists of wide, slightly uneven plateaus. The geology of the parish is relatively complex as there are faults, overlaps and folds here. This results on the one hand from a collision of the tectonic plates 370 million years ago and on the other hand from the occurrence of volcanism. Gold-containing ores, kaolin and other precious minerals were found in these faults. The source of the Loue , which flows into the Isle , is located in the north of the municipality, in the town of "Gabillou" at an altitude of 420 meters . The high valley of the Loue characterizes almost the entire landscape of the municipality. The Loue divides this area into two equal parts. The municipality is characterized by scattered settlements: there are 43 villages, 175 hamlets and isolated, isolated houses.
